Harry Patch

Don’t feel bad if you have no idea who Harry Patch is, I didn’t either. Harry Patch was the last living UK World War I veteran. He was 111 years old when he passed away this year. Yorke was moved by an interview with Patch before he died and wrote a tribute to him. As you can expect, the song is beautiful. The powerful and heavenly Greenwood string arrangement paired with the signature mournful vocals of Yorke are simply heart wrenching.

Radiohead - Harry Patch (In Memory Of)

“I am the only one that got through
The others died where ever they fell
It was an ambush
They came up from all sides
Give your leaders each a gun and then let them fight it out themselves
I’ve seen devils coming up from the ground
I’ve seen hell upon this earth
The next will be chemical but they will never learn”

The song can be downloaded from Radiohead’s website and all profits go to the Royal British Legion.
