Too many things come to mind when I listen to Teengirl Fantasy. I really won’t be surprised if these guys are popping up everywhere by the end of the year. But hey, that’s just me.
Turn this one on and relax, slow dance with the nearest person or floor lamp. Spectrals’ sort of mystical doo-wop seeps through my skin and into my bones. It really brings back memories of the Enchantment Under the Sea dance, too. That’s normal, right?
Check out the new video for “Wait Up (Boots Of Danger)”. A song from Tokyo Police Club’s new album, Champ. I love it, though I’m a huge sucker for dogs.
There are way too many amazing bands coming to the Bay Area for my wallet to handle. One of them being Wolf Parade. Listening to their new album, Expo 86, is convincing me that I have to go to their Oakland show. Take a listen to “Ghost Pressure” and “What Did My Lover Say?” below. Both songs are off their new album.
Maps & Atlases has been around for a while. It’s hard to believe that they’re just now putting out a debut album. After a few amazing EPs they’ve finally released their first full length, Perch Patchwork. This band never ceases to amaze me, though. Just take a listen to “Solid Ground.” I have it locked on repeat.
Let me just start by saying that Myths of the Near Future is one of my favorite albums of all time. Since its release I’ve been waiting patiently for a sophomore album. I was still patient even after hearing that Polydor (their record label) made the band rerecord most of the album because it was too experimental. TOO EXPERIMENTAL?! I hope they didn’t just throw away those original recordings because I would love to hear Klaxons being too experimental.
Finally, my time has come! Or their time, I guess. A new Klaxons album, Surfing the Void, is on its way, set for August 23rd. Check out the two songs floating around the interwebz. “Flashover” was a good start. It has typical Klaxons elements like lyrics of extradimensional wonders and a sort of alarming dark sound that you hear in songs like “Magick”. It’s “Echoes” that I feel really made the wait worth it, though. It just clicks with me the way songs like “Gravity’s Rainbow” and “Golden Skans” did three years ago. Though the track below is a radio rip it’s still of pretty great quality. Listen and judge for yourself.
What can I say… life happens. It’s been a crazy six months since my last post, but I’m back on the computer (which is probably a bad thing) rummaging through the dumpster that is the interwebz for new and fantastic music.
Anyway, here is some great lo-fi noise-pop from WAVVES’ new album, King of the Beach. I dare you to listen to these songs and not at the very least bop around in your chair. They have an amazingly infectious upbeat kick! So I say dance to this or you have no soul, a heart of coal, freeway ramps for arms, and ruby eyes capable of shooting laser death beams. Alright, so maybe a couple of those traits are pretty desirable, but I think you understand what I’m trying to say. You’ll definitely be able to find me at their San Francisco show in August!
It’s that time of year again to start preparing for Coachella. Look over the line up, boys and girls! When you’re done updating your Facebook status be sure to check the line up a second time so not to miss those small print bands that you may have quickly glanced over in your rush to feel socially relevant. It’s those bands written in the fine print that really make Coachella what it is. Besides the whole road trip with friends experience and blah blah blah. After all, it’s those bands that you actually have a chance of seeing. Everyone has their own way of experiencing music, mine doesn’t take place standing behind three football fields worth of people. Though, like a sucker, I’ll still stand behind those thousands of people to see Gorillaz, Thom Yorke, Pavement and others because I love them. Also I’m not crazy enough to get there early and hold on to the railing for eighteen hours. I’m not spending nearly three hundred dollars to stand in place all day. And on a side note, has anyone noticed DJ Lance Rock is on the line up?! SUPER! FANTASTIC! AMAZING!
Well, with order having nothing to do with importance I’ll slowly post my COACHELLA DO WANT LIST.
#1: The Cribs:
Men’s Needs, Women’s Needs, Whatever is still to this day one of my favorite albums of all time. I’ve been really enjoying their latest album Ignore The Ignorant featuring their newest member Johnny Marr. Initially Johnny Marr joining The Cribs seems really odd, completely unexpected. Thankfully, after seeing and hearing the new addition in action, it works for me. Their sound has definitely changed, but in a good way. Not in a disappointing It’s Blitz kind of way. Check out some Ignore The Ignorant tracks below, along with some video. YAY!
My current addiction is Surfer Blood. I’m a sucker for any band with a garage rock feel. Just toss in some reverb and feedback to seal the deal. They remind me of old Weezer meets The Cribs. What a great combo, right? Listen to their album Astro Coast. SO GOOD!
